It goes where other disciplines struggle to follow; into the realm of human individuality, free thought, to the realm of imagination which is a dimension without borders, without perimeters, without discrimination, without laws, without limitations. Creativity is one of the best distinctions that differs us from the other animals. It’s the cornerstone of being human because it’s an expression of consciousness and free will. Bloom’s taxonomy model of learning recognises this by placing synthesis, or creation, as the highest order thinking skill.
If we take a broader view of what constitutes as creativity, we are all creative.
Born in Luton, England in 1974, kaleeM rajA is a British Asian artist, writer and educator and poetry editor of The View From Here literary magazine, founder of reVerse View Poetry Group and ARTSscape website and host of the Spoken Word Jam at the UK Centre for Carnival Arts.
kaleeM rajA is the author of ‘Medication Nation’, ‘The Artisan and Other Short Stories’ and ‘A Short Book of Short Poems for People with Short Attention Spans’. kaleeM is a member of the Luton Poetry Society, Irish Forum Literary Society, London Poetry Society and Luton Writers’ Group. He has performed in London, Bedford, Leicester, Dunstable, Harpenden, St Albans and at 33 Arts Centre, Toddington Poetry Society and Luton Poetry Society.
He has featured on Radiolab, Tropical FM and Inspire FM and collaborated with Indian artist Raiyan Talkhani, Canadian singer-songwriter Matt Gill, American photographer Kevin Paul Stephens, writer Darin Porter and worked with artists Peter Blagg and Christine Elliott.
kaleeM holds a bachelor degree in English linguistics and literature from the University of Bedfordshire and is currently studying a masters degree in Educational Studies and Leadership and undertaking creative writing and journalism courses.
He has lived and worked in England, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, is currently the deputy head of a private school in Nairobi, Kenya. His recent professional projects include educational consultancy and curriculum development in schools in London and Bedfordshire, being a member of the arts and PR team at the Discover project and an ESOL tutor at the BACC. kaleeM is currently working on a collection of essays about his hometown Luton, a biography, an Islamic collection of Aesop’s fables, a play for the Royal Court Theatre and a collection of travel writing, poems, short stories and political essays about Africa.
